Dutch blues rock artist Beans & Fatback’s sophomore effort, With Skin Attached, was recorded in Amsterdam’s analog Electric Monkey studio, with lots of reverb, natural overdrive, and in glorious mono. But despite their reverence for the past, songs like “Use Me” and “Come And Get It” sound remarkably modern. In the spirit of artists like Jack White and Dan Auerbach on one hand, and the Menahan Street Band on the other, the band takes the lessons from the past and puts them into a new perspective. With Skin Attached is a proud grandson of rhythm & blues, singing at the top of his lungs and very much looking forward to tomorrow. With this album, Beans & Fatback proves to be a band with a sound, an oeuvre, and a bright future.
