jarell perry
In the rising new-school genre of alternative R&B, Jarell Perry is paving his own lane. His critically-acclaimed debut LP Simple Things – which mixes flavors of electronic, indie-rock, and pop – has already drawn comparisons to cross-over heavyweights like Miguel and Frank Ocean. But as URB Magazine puts it, “what sets him apart from this new breed of talents is a much fuller and developed vocal quality…sublime perfection…“.
Prior to releasing this LP, the MTV Buzzworthy artist’s writing credits included co-writing Fat Joe‘s comeback single featuring Chris Brown, “Another Round.” After growing a strong worldwide fanbase from YouTube (over 1 million views) and his alma mater UCLA, Jarell went on to meet and work with the likes of R&B superstar Usher, rapper Childish Gambino, international producers Diplo and Rusko. Jarell has since teamed up with Russell Simmons to be the first artist featured on his new venture, All Def Digital. With Simple Things, he’s looking to create a legacy even larger than his esteemed collaborators. Based on the feedback so far, he’s well on his way.
“Production wise, [“Getaway”] reminds us of the spook-hop sound of The Weeknd…But it’s Perry’s vocal skills alone that might be the most impressive part of this whole package: a melodoic, full-bodied blend somewhere in between Miguel and Usher.” — Idolator
